Cedar Hill State Park

Please note:

The swim beach and marina are temporarily closed for repairs due to flooding.

Cedar Hill State Park is the largest park on Joe Pool Lake. It is also one of the nicest parks in all of North Texas. With over 300 campsites, two four-lane boat ramps, a marina, beach, playground, kayak rentals, great fishing, and some of the best mountain biking trails in Texas, Cedar Hill State Park is full of activities for everyone. This 1,800+ acre park was acquired in 1981 and opened in 1992.

This park is very clean and well maintained.  There are restrooms located throughout the park.  There are also two ponds to fish from if you do not want to lake fish.  And there are son many trails that you may not be able to explore them all in one weekend.

Cedar Hill State Park is home to the premier North Texas mountain bike trail. The DORBA trail, named for the volunteers of the Dallas Off Road Biking Association, was built by mountain bikers for mountain bikers. Over 1,200 acres of prime mountain bike landscape are crisscrossed with 15 miles of intense riding. This exciting trail is closed after rainfall, so call (972) 291-3900.

Penn Farm Agricultural History Center

This center pays tribute to the disappearing Texas family farm and affords a glimpse into agrarian history when farm machinery took the place of the horse and mule almost a century ago. The Farm is open seven days a week to self-guided tours. There are reconstructed and historic buildings from the mid 1800s through the mid 1900s. The Penn Farm has a very relaxing atmosphere and is perfect for family walks. Self-guided and guided tours are available. Special tours can be set up for school groups or other groups. Call (972) 291-5940 for more information.

Perch Fishing Pond

Another cool amenity of Cedar Hill State park is the perch fishing pond for youngsters (pictured below).  This pond is built with a little fishing bridge about 75% of the way around.  There are restrooms right next to the pond.  There is another pond called the Duck Pond that is at the end of Duck Pond Trail.

There is also a floating fishing pier located at Joe Pool Marina. This fishing pier extends well into the cove. You can fish both indoors and outdoors from this pier (pictured below).
